Riga United FC would like to congratulate Liene
Vāciete on being called up for next’s week Baltic Cup
competition and on-loan player Selga
Whitmore for the same competition but in the U15’s
category.
This season, striker Liene Vāciete has stood out for Riga United
becoming joint top scorer and tied as the 5th highest scorer in the
Sieviešu Futbola Līga with 6 goals. She
will join former Black Cats player Ieva Bidermane, who currently
lives and and plays her football in Berlin (FC Victoria
1889).
On-loan midfielder Selga Whitmore has settled in nicely to life in
the Riga United FC Reserves, putting in some fine tenacious
performances. This is Selga’s debut season in women’s football
after being loaned to Riga United FC from FS Metta/LU. And
the relationship between the two clubs has proven to be a very
positive one with United’s Liene Vāciete now coaching young girls’
teams for both Riga United FC and for FS Metta/LU, while two young
FS Metta/LU players have joined Riga United on loan for the
season.
The Baltic Cup is an annual tournament between Latvia, Estonia and
Lithuania. In recent years, a team has been invited to the
tournament too. This year it’s The Faroe Islands. It will take
place in Riga between the 4th-7th August.
Please come along and support both Latvian teams. Entrance is
free and your support will be greatly appreciated by all concerned.
