29 / 07 / 2016
With the proud launch of our new Riga United FC Instagram account, RUFC and RUSG look at our internet ‘footprint’.

We all know how well Riga United FC have done this year
on the field, but we’ve also been working hard off of it. One
of United’s Objects in the constitution is “
to be the best community football club in the Baltic states,
contributing to the wider community on and off the field” in
doing so, we have tried to build up a fan base through our website
and social media platforms over the last three years.
Riga United have just launched a new Instagram account for the club
in general, supplementing the already popular Riga United Ladies’
Instagram account. So we thought we would take this opportunity to
look at how far United has come in attracting people to our club
through the internet since our internet debut three years ago.
We have taken the biggest clubs in Latvia and matched
Riga United FC against them. We have taken both men and women’s
teams into account (if applicable) over Facebook, Twitter and
Instagram: For a club playing in the third tier of national
men’s football and the top two tiers of women’s football, we think
Riga United put up some really good numbers against considerably
bigger clubs in Latvia (with massively larger budgets, resources
and infrastructure). We’re the fourth most followed on Facebook
(2,305) and we are the second most followed football club in all of
Latvia on Twitter! (2,273)

And what of the Supporter Groups/Fans’ Pages? Well out of the
big clubs in Latvia found in our research, there were only three
clubs with any real internet presence: Riga United Supporters’
Group, FS Metta/LU and FK Liepāja. It was discovered these groups
were only active over Facebook and Twitter. The RUSG came out on
top, closely followed by FS Metta/LU Fani

FK Liepāja 127

Of course we have the new, fantastic website too, which we
relaunched last year, which has helped us go a long way. For
a small club like ours, this is a remarkable feat. We are so proud
of how far we have come and how many people actively engage with us
on a daily basis. This club has always been about something bigger
than football and we believe it shows we’re heading in that
direction.
