Olaine 0-3 Riga United FC

Gouglou 51' 66'
Riga United came to Olaine expecting to build on good form from the
week. They chose to go together by bus and keep the massive
team spirit which has been running through the squad this season.
It paid off, with two goals from Karim Goulgou and another from
(his first in the league for Riga United) Ervīns Perkons.
Perkons was first to score in the 33rd minute. After good work from
Fabio Possagno made a pass to Jānis Pakalns and he in turn played
across the box to the far post, where Perkons was there to pounce
and put the ball into the net. Karim Gouglou, continued his magic
touch with two goals in the 51st and 66th minute respectively.
They both, wonderfully set up by Julian lock in similar
fashion. The first an excellent channel ball, found it’s way to
Gouglou, who dribbled past a defender and slotted it home.
The second one a similar ball from Lock and this time Gouglou
simply chipped the ball over the keeper for his second.
The first part of the game was a little bit sluggish for Riga,
something which the coaches will have to look at. However,
the longer the game got going, the more involved Riga were. On form
“target man” Jānis Pakalns was hoping to add to his tally this
season and had some early chances, they did not fall his way
though. The chances were coming.
In the first half, United chose to press high up the pitch, however
in the second they realise Olaine were defending well so they
dropped deeper to open up the opposition’s formation. Peter
Pfeifer and Perkons were particular highlights in the game causing
trouble down the left.
The second half, like in most of the games this season, United
started much the stronger team and they continued to stretch Olaine
with their passing and switching play. The black Cats could have
easily had more than 3 goals on the night as hcances were coming
thick and fast for them. However, they couldn’t finish the chances,
including a one-on-one, which was put wide.
United’s keeper Murat Kelkit was mostly quiet having only 4 moments
where he was called into action, as United’s defence stood firm
against the Olaine attack as they couldn’t get through.
Again in the second half Niels Krause showed what a valuable asset
he is to the team with his workhorse like nature.
United still had further chances as they controlled the game but
they were unable to add as the final whistle blew.
This was a great performance from the team. As steady and
confident as they have shown all season. The players quite rightly
should be feeling proud about this game.
After the game, RUSG caught up with captain for the day Sofian
Berrahal to get his view: “The spirits were high after last victory
and everyone was hungry for more points. I told the guys this team
is not to be underestimated because they had good results this
season (like draw with Monarhs[-Flaminko] 1-1). We are happy to get
another valuable three points that made us jump to 4th place in the
league. The teamspirit was amazing with everyone celebrating
another small successful step in the campaign. For Karim’s
[Gouglou] for two great goals and Julian [Lock], who even though
unfortunately missed a chance, had a great input in setting up two
of our goals, they would be the joint Man of the Match today.”
