Rīgas FS/Cerība 46. Vsk vs Riga United FC
Ladies
Venue: Arkādijas Stadions, Rīga
Kick Off: 16/07/2016 - 14:00
Riga United will play Cerība for the third and final time in the
league today, as they look to try and make it three wins in-a-row
this season.
Cerība are still without a win this season, however, there has been
a noticeable improvement in the team this year. They look
stronger as a unit and do very well in counter attacking. They
scored their first goals against Riga United last time out; United
still walking away 4-2 victors but gave Riga much ‘food for
thought’. The other game was won by Riga earlier in the season 2-0.
United have made new ground this year, they are in 3rd place in the
league for the first time, they beat Rēzekne for the first time
too, in the previous game. IT will be good for United to build some
momentum before the cup games start.
Speaking ahead of the game, coach Justin Walley shared his
thoughts: “We know that 3 points on Saturday will take us to 13
points and will give us a great chance of finishing the season in
the top three. Last time we played them, they scored twice against
us. They hadn't done that before and I have seen a marked
improvement in Ceriba. As always, I have confidence in the
players I have available and believe they can grind out a
result."
Team news:
It’s a reshuffle for United. A lot of players are away from
the team currently so Walley is having to utilise the depth of the
team. Liene Vāciete will captain the team in the absence of Marit
Gjerde, as she looks to add to her tally of 5 goals this year. New
signing Evelīna Romanova comes in to make her first team debut as
goalkeeper.
Sharing his thoughts on the team, Walley was confident the ladies
could gel together but noted, they need to do it quickly. “With the
majority of our squad unavailable as most of players are abroad for
the summer, it has been hard getting a team together for this one.
Fortunately, Evelina has signed for us as goalkeeper and makes her
debut, while Katya [Jekaterina Volkovica] and Virgīnija [Liepiņa]
join us from the second team squad. I am certain this will be
a tough match and the girls representing Riga United will need to
perform well as a group; a group that have never played together
before and will need to gel quickly”
