A goal from Liene Vāciete and Marit Gjerde in each of the halves saw Riga take an excellent draw 2-2 against Liepaja and it will make the cup game on Thursday all the more exciting.

Riga United were out for Liepaja from the very beginning when, just past the 1min mark, Liene Vāciete took advantage of a terrible pass in defence and made no mistake of dispatching the shot into the corner of the net.

Despite some superb passing from Liepaja, Riga’s shape and defensive duties were holding strong for most of the half and Liepaja soon came stuck in trying to get the ball through. Meanwhile, Riga were looking for the counter and almost broke through a couple of times.

In the 38th minute, Liepaja drew level after lapse in defence and saw a great cross come in and a solid finish.

Into the second half and Carolyn Seydel made way for the returning Marit Gjerde, this move looked more attacking and certainly it was looking good when some of the passes made looked to open up play. Meanwhile, Anna Bang was doing a great job marshalling the defence.

Into the 53rd minute and after a foul on Vāciete. Ieva Bidermane swung a perfect ball into the area, putting it into the ‘corridor of uncertainty’ for the goalie, and it came of the crossbar, appeared to have crossed the line but the linesman didn’t flag so, however, Gjerde was quickest to respond and put it home to make it 2-1.

They could have gone 3-1 up when a cross came in and two players were just not able to get it. and it narrowly missed the goal.

Liepaja didn’t have much in the way of chances or creating anything as Riga were causing problems for their attack. However it took a moment of genius and there is not much that could have been done about the second goal as the Liepaja player took the ball brilliantly passed the Riga defence and placed it in the corner of the goal in the 74th minute.

After that, very few chances came for either side and the game finished with ‘honours even’. Though Riga should be the happier of the two teams, certainly the cheering fans were.

What does this score say?
When the full time whistle went, the Riga United Supporters’ group put a post up saying “All in all this was a fair result and Riga should be proud”. Whilst there maybe some disappointment about drawing from a winning position, it says a lot about how far Riga have come.

Not many people would have said Riga would be able to take a point from the 2nd best team in Latvia at the beginning of the season. In fact, they probably wouldn’t have believed it. The level of confidence, which has been installed into this team and coming from a 6-0 loss in the very game to a 2-2 in the last, can only be described a fantastic achievement by the players and the coaches. The ladies will now feel going into next season that RFS and Liepaja should watch out because United will be ready and competing.

Making a name for themselves:
There were a few players who played superbly on Tuesday. Tami Berish, as has often been the case this year, been a workhorse, constantly going for challenges and never giving up. Anna Bang all season, when playing, has been a solid as a rock in defence, being the loudest and one of the best organisers of the defence, they held a solid line last night and would not let Liepaja get those shots away. Lise Langmyr, had a solid competitive debut and it will be interesting to see how she progresses, certainly she looked composed on the ball and was not afraid to challenge.

Macron’s Player of the Game: Aina Bikše - Phenomenal performance in midfield, she tackled, pressured and played the ball well. She gave the opponents an absolute headache.

Pa vārtiem no Lienes Vācietes un Marit Gjerde katrā no puslaikiem nodrošināja Riga United patīkamu neizšķirtu pret FK Liepāja komandu, kas savukārt liek cerēt uz visai interesantu Latvijas Kausa pusfināla spēli, kas tiks aizvadīta ceturtdien.

Riga United spēli sāka pārliecinoši jau no pirmajām minūtēm un vienā no pirmajiem uzbrukumiem Liene Vāciete izmantoja ļoti rupju kļūdu pretinieču aizsardzības līnijā un pārliecinoši raidīja to vārtu tīklā.

Neskatoties uz visai labu bumbas kontroli no Liepājas puses, RU aizsardzība darbojās gandrīz vai perfekti visa puslaika garumā, radot Liepājai problēmas nogādāt bumbu līdz mūsu vārtiem. RU tai pat laikā koncentrējās uz pretuzbrukumu izmantošanu, kas gandrīz vai sekmējās ar vārtiem dažādas no epizodēm.

Pēc mirkļa vājuma aizsardzībā, Liepāja izmantoja savu iespēju un spēles 38. minūtē, pēc veiksmīgas saspēles labajā laukuma pusē un centrējuma, pirmā pie bumbas bija Liepājas uzbrucēja, kas raidīja bumbu vārtos.

Spēles otrajā puslaikā, kad Carolyn Seydel vietā laukumā devās Marit Gjerde, RU spēle kļuva daudz uzbrūkošāka, Marit pieturot bumbu bieži tika atrastas brīvās zonas, kur iespēlēt. Tai pat laikā aizsardzības līniju kā vienmēr pārliecinoši kontrolēja Anna Bang.

Spēles 53. minūtē pēc pārkāpuma pret L. Vācieti, soda sitienu izpildīja Ieva Bīdermane. Viņas raidījums pāri sieniņai un vārtsargam problēmas sagādātajā zonā atsitās pret vārtu pārlikni un līkās šķērsoja vārtu līniju, tomēr līnijtiesneses karodziņš palika nolaists. Tai brīdī neapstulba Marit Gjerde, kas bija pirmā pie atlekušās bumbas un ar galvu to raidīja vārtu tīklā, panākot 2-1.

Dāmām bija iespējas rezultāta starpību palielināt, kad vienā no soda sitieniem bumba lidoja gar pašu vārtu stabu un divas no spēlētājām nespēja to pielabot vārtu virzienā.

Liepājai nebija daudz momentu gūt vārtus, jo RU labi darbojās aizsardzībā. Bet jāsaka ka tādai spēlētājai kā A. Tarasova vajadzēja vien vienu sekundi brīvības, lai saņemot bumbu pie 30m atzīmes un apspēlējot RU aizsardzība, raidītu to vārtos.

Pēc šiem vārtiem nebija īsti vārtu gūšanas momentu nevienas komandas izpildījumā un spēle noslēdzās ar labi pelnītu neizšķirtu. Lai gan RU noteikti ir priecīgākā no abām komandām, vismaz RU līdzjutēji noteikti.

Ko šis rezultāts nozīmē?

Atskanot spēles beigu svilpei, Riga United Supporter’s grupa ievietoja ziņu:”Visā visumā šis ir spēli labi raksturojoš rezultāts un Riga United jābūt lepniem”. Lai arī ir maza nožēla, jo mūsu dāmas bija vadībā lielu daļu spēles, tomēr arī neizšķirts parāda cik tālu Riga United ir gājusi.

Nebūs daudz tādu cilvēku, kas sezonas sākumā būtu teikuši, ka Riga United ir spējīgas paņemt punktu pret otro spēcīgāko komandu SFL. Var pat teikt, ka neviens tam nenoticētu. Pārliecība, kas ir iemājojusi spēlētājās nākot no 6-0 zaudējuma čempionāta pirmajā spēlē līdz neizšķirtam 2-2 pēdējā līgas spēlē var tikt raksturota tikai kā fantstisks sasniegums gan spēlētājām, gan treneru kolektīvam. Dāmas nākamjā sezonā spēkojoties ar RFS un FK Liepāja komandām varēs justies daudz pārliecinātākas un droši vien liks nedaudz bīties arī šīm komandām.

Apliecinot savu vārdu un vietu komandā:
Otrdienas spēli ļoti labi aizvadīja visas spēlētājas, tomēr dažas jāuzteic papildus. Tami Berish, kā jau tas vairākas reizes šai sezonā ir pierādījies, bija kā nenogurdināms darba zirgs, aktīvi strādājot gan aizsardzībā, gan uzbrukumā, spēlējot līdz galam katrā situācijā. Anna Bang savukārt visas sezonas garumā, kad viņa ir bijusi sastāvā ir bijusi aizsardzības balsts, esot viena no skaļākajām spēlētājām laukumā, aktīvi koriģējot savu aizsardzības un pussargu līnijas, neļaujot liepājniecēm nokļūt līdz mūsu vārtiem. Šī spēle bija arī debija Lise Langmyr, kas sevi parādīja no vislabākās puses, droši darbojoties un labi iekļaujoties aizsardzības četriniekā, nebaidoties doties divcīņās. Būs interesanti pavērot kā viņa progresēs nākmās sezonas laikā.

Macron spēles labākā spēlētāja: Aina Bikše. Fenomenāla performance viņas izpildījumā. Viņa bija visur, veiksmīgi darbojoties aizsardzībā un veiksmīgi neitralizējot vine no labākajām pretinieču spēlētājām un vēl pagūstot arī veiksmīgi pieslēgties uzbrukumiem.
